John Lasseter ficha por Skydance Animation

John Lasseter, co-fundador de Pixar Animation Studios y ex-director creativo tanto de esta compañia como de Walt Disney Animation Studios, ha sido contratado para liderar Skydance Animation, la division de animacion de Skydance Media, en sustitucion de Bill Damaschke.

Asi lo ha anunciado el CEO de la compañia, David Ellison, a traves de un comunicado que pueden encontrar integro a continuacion (en ingles eso si).

Lasseter, conocido tambien por sus caracteristicas camisas hawaianas, solo tendra por encima a Ellison, su oficina en la ciudad de Los Angeles y comenzara a trabajar a finales de este mismo mes de enero.

Recordemos que Lasseter, de 61 años, abandono sus cargos como jefe creativo tanto de Pixar Animation Studios como de Walt Disney Animation Studio a finales de 2018.

Recordemos que en noviembre de 2017 Lasseter, de 61 años, anuncio que se tomaba una excedencia de su cargo de seis meses tras reconocer comportamientos fuera de lugar con los que se habia propasado con su personal. "Me disculpo profundamente si os he decepcionado. Especialmente quiero pedir perdon a cualquiera que haya estado en el lado contrario de un abrazo no deseado o cualquier otro gesto que sienta que haya cruzado el limite de algun modo, manera o forma. No importa como de inofensiva fuera mi intencion: todo el mundo tiene derecho a establecer sus propios limites y que se respeten", dijo Lasseter a sus trabajadores en un comunicado interno.

Pasado este tiempo, ya en junio de 2018, se anuncio que abandonaria su doble cargo como jefe creativo tanto de Pixar Animation Studios como de Walt Disney Animation Studio a finales de 2018: "He decidido que a finales de este año sera el momento adecuado para comenzar a centrarme en nuevos desafios creativos".

Como jefe creativo de Pixar, Lasseter ha supervisado y sido productor ejecutivo de todos los filmes de la compañia hasta la fecha, siendo 'Toy story 4' el ultimo filme en el que veremos aparecer su nombre en los creditos. A su vez, ha supervisado y sido productor ejecutivo de todas las peliculas de Walt Disney Animation Studios desde que asumio el cargo en 2007: Desde 'Descubriendo a los robinsons' a la reciente 'Ralph rompe internet'.

Ademas, Lasseter tambien co-dirigio un total de cinco largometrajes: 'Toy story' (primer largometraje integramente realizado mediante animacion por ordenador), 'Bichos, una aventura en miniatura', 'Toy story 2. los juguetes vuelven a la carga', 'Cars' y 'Cars 2'.

Tras su marcha Jennifer Lee, co-directora de 'Frozen: El reino del hielo', asumio la nueva direccion creativa de Walt Disney Animation Studios, mientras que Pete Docter, director de 'Del revés', hizo lo propio dentro de Pixar Animation Studios.

Por ultimo, y antes de dejarles con el comunicado oficial, mencionar que la division de animacion de Skydance Media colabora estrechamente con Ilion Animation Studios, compañia española con sede en Las Rozas y responsables de filmes como 'Planet 51' o esa 'El parque mágico' a estrenar por Paramount esta misma primavera.

Desde su nuevo cargo Lasseter asumira la supervision de proyectos como 'Los dalton contra lucky luke', comedia escrita por Jonathan Aibel y Glenn Berger ('Kung fu panda', 'Trolls') y dirigida por Alessandro Carloni ('Kung fu panda 3') que gira en torno a la batalla entre las organizaciones de la buena y la mala suerte, las cuales controlan de manera secreta nuestras vidas diarias.

"Dear Colleagues:

I wanted to share with you first some news that we are announcing today.

Industry visionary John Lasseter is joining us to lead Skydance Animation. John will be based in Los Angeles and will report directly to me.

Bill Damaschke will be transitioning from his current role, and we are hopeful he will choose to remain within the Skydance family.

The attached press release outlines the news more fully, but I wanted to share a few things that have informed our decision to bring John on board.

First, no one can dispute John's legacy building Pixar and Walt Disney Animation into the leadership position they now enjoy. His creative vision and forward-looking approach to animation has transformed the entire industry. At his heart, John is a storyteller - with a unique ability to tell beautiful and emotionally-driven tales that resonate and inspire audiences around the globe.

Second, I know many of you are aware of John's admitted mistakes in his prior role helming those studios. John has been forthright in taking ownership of his behavior, apologized for his actions and has spent the past year on sabbatical analyzing and improving his workplace behavior.

Third, we employed outside counsel to thoroughly investigate the allegations, which we considered serious and have warranted our full attention as we made this important decision. The senior leadership team and I have all carefully evaluated the findings of this extensive investigation.

Let me be clear: we have not entered into this decision lightly.

While we would never minimize anyone's subjective views on behavior, we are confident after many substantive conversations with John, and as the investigation has affirmed, that his mistakes have been recognized. We are certain that John has learned valuable lessons and is ready to prove his capabilities as a leader and a colleague. And he has given his assurance that he will comport himself in a wholly professional manner that is the expectation of every Skydance colleague and partner.

We are very hopeful and excited about what the coming years will bring, as John's art transcends generations and cultures, while deeply resonating on a fundamental level with what makes us uniquely human.

The senior leadership team and I will be hosting a town hall for all Skydance Animation colleagues shortly to speak with you directly about this transition. Additional town halls at SDM and SDI will take place today and tomorrow.
